Drinking It All: East Atlanta Beer Festival
My wife and I went to the East Atlanta Beer Festival this weekend with our friend, Steve, who lives in Atlanta. I took a little notebook with me to make notes about the beers at the festival and at restaurants and bars we went to, so then I could post about them. Such cataloging did not happen. But I did go back over the beer list at the festival and write down the beers I remembered trying, which, I'm pretty sure, is fairly accurate (the list). The beer festival was not the free-for-all crazy drunkfest that some people may think a beer...
Beer Wars: A Movie About Fighting the Good Fight
Last week, my wife and I watched the documentary Beer Wars that came out a little over a year ago. I'd heard about the movie, and was obviously interested in seeing it, but it didn't seem to cross my mind to get it on Netflix until a friend told me he'd watched it recently. So, anyway, we got it and watched it. I realize the movie is over a year old, and probably was reviewed in several publications/on several blogs, but I'm going to give you a review of it anyway. The documentary mostly focuses on three narrative lines: Rhonda Kallman's, co-founder...
Drinking It All: #22 Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale
Drinking It All is a document of my attempt to try every beer in circulation. It's a Herculean and tragic attempt at best. But it's the means, not the end that counts here. -- Today I've got another Dogfish Head beer to write about--an Indian Brown Ale. This beer somewhat resembles another famous brown ale: Newcastle, but it's hoppier and has 7.2% ABV. So it's a bigger beer all around. (I realized after I opened the beer up that my last post was a Dogfish Head as well, and I aim to spread beers from the same brewery out more. But it's already...
Beer Tasting Ups and Downs
A few nights ago, I went to a beer tasting here in town. The tasting was kind of sponsored by the local Anheuser-Busch distributor, and George Reisch, who is a brewmaster and director of brewmaster outreach for A-B, was the speaker/guide for the tasting. I expected, going in, to taste a few beers made by A-B and maybe hear a little about how they're made. However, the tasting was much more interesting. Not only did we get to taste some A-B beers (i.e., Budweiser, Bud Light, Shock Top), but we got to taste them next to their competition (i.e., Miller Lite,...
Damn the Torpedos and such…
The fact that I'm writing this, and you are currently reading this, you non-passive participant, means that I've crumpled beneath the behemoth, soul-taking, time-killing, ever-present way to avoid productive (assuming you're a good little worker bee) work...blog. Honestly (be honest. Honestly, c'mon.), I fought it, derided it, kicked it in the throat, laughed at its dog while it was taking a shit, and but then I bought it. But still, I didn't think I'd be writing it. So we (I) find ourselves (myself) here. It's awkward--I apologize. Here's what I think you can/should expect from this site: Fun and FUN Discussions of music,...
